Overview

This project involved UX and UI consulting support for Banesco Panamá’s mobile application during the later stages of the product process.

The work was developed in collaboration with the marketing-led initiative and a third-party provider that was carrying the main execution. My role was to support the app through a consulting lens, helping refine the experience, strengthen interface consistency, and contribute to usability-focused decisions before launch.

Project Snapshot

  • Client / Company: Banesco Panamá
  • Project Type: Mobile banking app
  • Industry: Banking / financial services
  • Scope: UX/UI consulting, final-stage refinement, Figma collaboration, design system support, usability feedback
  • My Role: UX/UI consultant
  • Collaboration: Marketing team, external provider, internal stakeholders
  • Stage of Involvement: Final phases, review, refinement, and UX validation

Context

The mobile app was part of Banesco Panamá’s broader digital evolution and relaunch efforts.

Because the app experience carries a high level of trust, frequency of use, and user expectation, even final-stage refinements can have a significant effect on how mature and usable the product feels. My role was to contribute from that perspective: not to redefine the entire product, but to help improve the quality of the experience through more deliberate UX and UI decisions.

The Challenge

The challenge was to enter a product that already had direction, progress, and production momentum, and still identify where the experience could be improved before release.

In mobile banking, small interface decisions matter a lot. Clarity, consistency, action hierarchy, trust signals, and flow readability all have an outsized effect on how the app is perceived. The work required a close reading of the product, a collaborative relationship with the provider, and careful refinement based on both design review and user feedback.

Goals

  • Support stronger UX and UI quality in the final app stages
  • Improve experience clarity and consistency in key mobile flows
  • Contribute to design system alignment and Figma refinement
  • Strengthen collaboration between consulting input and provider execution
  • Use user testing observations to support more grounded decisions

My Contribution

My contribution focused on helping the app feel more coherent, usable, and mature in its final phases.

I supported the project through:

  • UX and UI review of mobile screens and flows
  • collaborative refinement in Figma
  • design system and component alignment
  • feedback on clarity, hierarchy, and interaction understanding
  • UX testing support with different participating clients
  • experience adjustments informed by real user reactions and final-stage review

This was a consulting role shaped by close collaboration rather than isolated authorship.

Approach

My approach was centered on practical refinement.

That meant reviewing the app not only from a visual perspective, but from an experience perspective:

  • how easily users understood what to do
  • whether the hierarchy supported confidence and task completion
  • where screens felt too dense or unclear
  • whether components and patterns felt consistent
  • how trust and clarity were being communicated in a mobile environment
  • what user testing revealed about friction, hesitation, or misunderstanding

The goal was not to impose a different product direction, but to help the existing product feel more resolved.

Key UX / UI Decisions

1. Improving clarity in key task-oriented screens

Mobile banking apps rely on quick comprehension. Part of the work focused on making important actions and information feel easier to scan and understand.

2. Reinforcing consistency across patterns and components

Consistency in financial products reduces hesitation. Supporting stronger component and pattern alignment helped the experience feel more stable and predictable.

3. Refining visual hierarchy to support confidence

When people manage financial tasks on mobile, hierarchy directly affects trust. The clearer the interface, the more confident the user feels moving through it.

4. Using testing sessions to identify friction points

Testing with different clients helped reveal where the product still needed more clarity, simpler interpretation, or stronger action emphasis.

5. Supporting a more mature final product without overcomplicating delivery

Because the app was already in advanced phases, the value of the work came from improving what mattered most without introducing unnecessary disruption.

Design System / Figma Collaboration

A relevant part of the contribution happened in Figma and around the product’s design system logic.

This included:

  • reviewing and refining mobile UI details directly in design files
  • supporting consistency across reusable components
  • aligning patterns with a stronger system mindset
  • collaborating closely with the external provider
  • helping design decisions stay organized and usable as part of the final delivery process

Experience Validation

A key layer of the work involved UX testing with different participating clients.

That testing phase brought practical value because it made it easier to validate assumptions and identify friction in the app experience. It helped reveal where users felt confident, where they hesitated, and where the product needed more clarity before release.

Outcome

The result was a stronger app experience through final-stage consulting, UX/UI refinement, and collaborative validation.

The project benefited from:

  • improved clarity in important mobile flows
  • stronger design system consistency
  • more polished interface decisions
  • usability-informed refinements based on testing sessions
  • closer coordination between marketing, provider, and design support
  • a more mature and deliberate product feel before launch

What This Project Reinforced

This project reinforced how valuable consulting work can be in the later phases of a digital product.

You do not always add value by redesigning everything. Sometimes the real contribution is helping a product become clearer, more stable, and more trustworthy through focused refinement, good collaboration, and stronger UX judgment at the right moment.

That is the kind of contribution this case represents for me.

Let's build something
exceptional together.
